Includes 10 boxes of the correspondence of Captain C. S. McDowell (1884-1957), supervising engineer of the 200" telescope project. McDowell's correspondence (1935-1940) covers almost every aspect of the building of the Palomar Observatory; of particular interest is his correspondence with individuals such as Vannevar Bush (1935-38) and companies such as Westinghouse on the design of the telescope's mounting, drive and control.
